We are a team of high school students from Enloe High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, who are trying to raise awareness for EMS by looking at a national issue from a local perspective. According to Andrew Seaman from Reuters Health, researchers found that it takes approximately eight minutes between a civilian's call for help and the arrival of EMS, however, that rose to 14 minutes in rural areas. This delay in response time for EMS is primarily caused by drivers blocking lanes, which is not allowing for EMS to pass through quickly. We chose to raise awareness on this issue because as high school students we are upcoming drivers and it is our duty to not be a part of their problem, but instead be a part of their solution, so that they can get to the site of an accident quickly. If EMS respondents can reach quicker to civilians, then more lives will be saved. We were sad when we heard that a loved one of someone who we knew passed away after a car accident because the EMS was not able to reach on time at the incident, and we were inspired to make a change in our community by raising awareness on this issue. We hope that by creating this website, we are able to reach out to more people on implementing safety while driving and following protocol so that the EMS respondents can reach people faster.
